This is frustratingly weird. I have a pc running xp professional, a motu 828 and Samplitude 10.2. When I turn on the 828 it does not show up and does not work with itunes or real player or the dvd player but it does show up on Samplitude 10 and works fine. I also have Samplitude 6 and it does not work with that. It I go the the sound and audio device properties it does not show up. If I check the device manager it says this device is working properly. Any ideas? Thanks

Some programs like itunes and real player are stupid and refuse to work with external soundcards.

...just nothing you can do for that short of complaining to the developers.

You can, however, convert your music over to mp3 and then use a player that will talk to an external interface. I use VLC and Winamp on my 828mkII with no problem....

How strange but upon closer inspection there were two different versions of the motu driver installed, even though I uninstalled to old driver before installing the new one. There was one in the device manager and another in the sound and audio devices properties. Samplitude was using one and the itunes and dvd player was using another or something like that. It works now.
