"Firepod midi-in" vs. "Firepod midi-in {Emulated}"

Im a little confused by what I see in Nuendo when I add a new midi track to a project. I see two types of midi input:

"Firepod midi-in" & "Firepod midi-in {Emulated}"

ok, whats the difference? Why do both appear in the dropdown midi input in my track, but only the "Emulated" version works?
