Hi there!

I want to build my first PC DAW. I'm doing a lot of research and came down to this:

- asus P5b
- Q6600
- 2Gb ddr2 800Mhz (good brand, that I know!!)
- Nvidia 7xxx (don't need a fancy one. Just to make sure i won't have problems with it)
- 2 or 3 SATA HDD (seagate?)
- Zalman cooler (I read many people go for them but i don't know which model would fit my needs)
- Case: many ppl use antec but i don't know which one is better for audio. Are there other cheaper cases with good acoustic results?
- 22" monitor screen

On the MoBo side, I see many people with asus p5B but also many of them have P5E, or P5K, and I don't know which one is better for audio, or which one is more upgradeable (upgradable? ;) or works better with Q6600. How important is the FSB speed?

I don't want to go for the best machine you can build because i don't have money for that, but i'd like to be able to upgrade things as the money comes in!! (an i7 processor or ddr 3 RAM and so on)

So what do you guys think of this configuration? Would you change anything? Perhaps it would be better to buy a cheaper graffic card and get more RAM, or faster RAM?

I'll be running ableton with many VSTi's and sample libraries on XP
The audio card will be a presonus firebox or focusrite saffire probbably.

Thanks in advance. I'm already craving for your anwers!!!

I have not had much luck with asus boards for DAW.
That is just my personal experience.
I have had good luck with Biostar boards.
I have ran the XFX cards wit good results running dual monitors.
I run XP pro.
I try to keep it all intel based chipset.
You probably could get 'new' older cards, parts etc for half the price of the latest stuff.
My first daw build was about a grand, since then, the 2 machines I am using were less than $500 to build.
If you would like a detail on my machines, email me.
Good luck.

Checking on ebay:

Intel DP35DPM + Q6600 + CORSAIR XMS2 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Unbuffered DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) CL 5 DHX dual path Dual Channel System Memory.

Everything unsealed from factory for 450+70 shipping=520$

What do you guys think of this? I also see many ppl happily using the DP35DPM...
