View Full Version : How do i change instrument voices in ACID Pro 6?

I've connected my keyboard (Yamaha DGX-205) to my computer with a USB cable as a MIDI player and it plays and records in Acid Pro just fine. I just don't know how to change the voice in Acid Pro so that it doesn't just play piano (ie. cello, drums, flute, etc.)

Any help would be so greatly appreciated. I will give virtual hugs.

Hi weirdduck,

Welcome to the board. It sounds like your MIDI connection is defaulting to your General MIDI synthesizer. There are two things you can do: switching between the GM sounds, and also re-routing your MIDI information to a VST soft synth. I'm not sure if you have any of these (if not, check out KvRAudio.com for a lot of freebies-mostly electronic but there are some orchestral ones)

In either case, you'll need to locate Acid's mixing console. On it, find the track that you're recording to and take a look at its output routing. It is probably set to a General MIDI/GS Synth.

If you expand it on the mix strip (or perhaps the tracking strip), you should see the option to switch the Patch or Program, and clicking there should bring up all 128 GM instrument options.

If you want to switch to a VST plug-in that you've downloaded and placed into Acid's VST plugins directory, insert the soft synth, then click on the MIDI track's output tab. Aside from GM/GS you should now see the synth as a destination.

This youtube clip has a little an excellent walkthough of the process: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QT5qktqcr68

Hope this helps,
Reegs
