I just recently decided that I should build a new PC for just doing recording. I would like some advice from you guys on what would be the best route to go.

Here is what I know so far...

I will be using some hand-me-down stuff (old video card, motherboard) I already have my own Audio Interface and software. I will be using windows, but not sure if I should use vista or XP yet, if you have a recommendation, please let me know. http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=11&l3=170&l4=0&model=585&modelmenu=2 I am pretty certain this is the motherboard I used to have. I will be getting 2-1 gig sticks of RAM.

Do you guys think I should get a new modern motherboard? and how fast of a processor should I get?

Reading on here I see it is recommended to have 2 different hard drives, I will be using my 320GB from this computer and putting it in that one and buying a new one for the recording and a new one for my current PC. How much space do you think would be good?

I hope this isn't too broad if needed to be more specific I will do my best.

Thanks guys.

Properly configured, Vista is a-ok for audio. Get a Texas Instruments firewire chipset card if your interface is Firewire.

I don't know enough about motherboards to make a recommendation there.

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo (or Quad) >2.0GHz and you'll be happy.

Drives: Yes, use two. For the recording disk, consider what you'll be doing, how much archive space you'll need, and your project settings. At 24/44.1 500GB drives are cheap and sizeable. If you're going 24/96, look at a 750GB or 1TB. If you use extensive numbers of samples, a third drive dedicated to these is also recommended, and obviously dependent on your sample library sizes.
