I've been using FL Studio for around 6 months now, and have become pretty experienced in all of it's features and stuff like that.
But recently I've been getting more serious about making music, and was wondering if there was a better program I should be using (FL is the only one I've ever used.)
I also don't have any sort of external midi interface (like a midi keyboard) so I always just use FL Studio's piano roll. I wasn't sure if other DAWs that give a more professional sound had sequencers like this, so I thought I'd just throw it in there.
my specs:
CPU: AMD Athlon64 3500+
Sound: Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
Memory: 1 gig

I say if it works for you, stick with it!
That said, making the move to using a real keyboard and not a mouse-based one is certainly a wise move. Look into REASON as a new program to use when you go with the real midi keyboard.

I agree. Put the money towards a MIDI keyboard. Fruity has turned into quite a capable sequencer.

What are the advantages to having a midi keyboard as opposed to just using the piano roll?

well, you'll be able to record anything the exact way you play it, without no further (or minimal) note editing if you are a good keyboardist. It's really useful when composing so you start jamming and recording the ideas... I believe it basically lets you play live with your creativity.

A sequencer's sound is only limited by the samples and virtual instruments you use with it. FL Studio can use all the VSTi instruments that the more expensive sequencers can.
If you are comfortable working in FL Studio and it is accomplishing what you need it to do, then by all means, stick with it. You won't see an improvement in sound by switching DAW software.

just maybe you could try something new simply to see if it suits you better or worst, it's like having a car... everyone loves their first car until they buy a new one, hehe, maybe not exactly like that, but I feel it's best for you to have a comparison point.
