I am new into mixxing, got a tascam M-2600 and mackie 824's. Thinking of adobe audition with reason or pro tools with reason. what do i need to know about each software? Will they work together?

Pro-Tools will require, at minimum, some kind of proprietary or m-powered hardware, or some way to interface the console with the computer/software. Audition will work with pretty much any interface.
The question you've asked is kind of broad outside of the hardware issue. This is pretty much a personal preference question, ignoring "professional standard" issues. You could provide some more information. What are you planning to record/mix? What is your budget? What is your familiarity with DAWs in general?
Are you also asking if Audition and Pro-Tools work together, or Reason and each of them?
Welcome to the Forums.

Adobe Audition won't work on your Mac anyway. PC only.

Depending on what Cool Edit you had and what Audition you get.
Audition versions up to 1.5 are very similar to Cool Edit Pro and if you know your way around CEP, you'll have no trouble with AA 1.1 or 1.5.
They started making changes in AA 2 and now 3 is out and I understand the learning curve is higher and the similarities with older AA are fewer.
I use AA 1.5 and it works perfectly well for my needs. Since it ain't broke....I ain't gonna fix it..
