This is a short review:
I have never used a CAD microphone before. I have heard some good things about them, one of those things being that their low price does not reflect their quality and sound.
The Trion 8000 is a multi-pattern, large diaphragm, tube condenser mic; class A circuit and comes with its own power supply, basket and cable. It is a baby bottle design. The first thing about this mic is that it is solid; it has some weight to it.
The second thing about this mic – it sounds very nice! Warm without being wooly, the top end is smooth and so far there is no brittle “Chinese” sound. I tried it on a variety voices – men, women, and child and they all sounded well and fit within a variety of acoustic songs.
The Cardioid pattern had decent rejection from the sides and top.
The Figure of 8 had good and deep side rejection. I did notice the backside capsule seemed a little bit brighter that the front.
The Omni seemed more oval than round.
The two mics I have been using lately that the Trion 8000 reminds me off is a SM7 or AT4047, although it is a tad brighter than the 4047 and more sensitive than the SM7.
I am pleased with this purchase.
