Without going into a lot of detail, I'm having a computer freeze up problem. I've changed the OS (from 98SE to XP Pro), the video card and corrected some IRQ conflicts. The problem still occurs. The remaining possible culprits are... a) the sound card, b) the CPU or c) the RAM.
Here's my basic setup:
-- Abit KG7 Motherboard (not using the RAID)
-- AMD Athlon 1900+ (1.67mHz)
-- 512 PC2100 RAM
-- 80 Gig Western Digital HD
-- Echo MIA Sound Card
-- Nvidia GeForce 2 AGP Video Card (32 Meg RAM)
-- D-Link Network Card (for access to broadband network)
Anyone who has experienced any problem similar to this (system freeze,) or can offer some insight, your assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe

JoeLogan,
I'm using the MIA in my system:
Asus A7V333-R with Raid,
AMD XP2100
512 MB Crucial RAM
80 GB system disk,
240 GB A/V disk (raid 1)
Win XP Pro
No problems with this configuration.
What is freezing up? Your application or Win XP?
How did you install your new OS, over your old windows or did you do a clean install of XP?
Have you checked with Abit to make sure the brand of RAM in your system is checked/compatible with your MOBO?
Don't forget to check your power supply. Mysterious freezes and crashes can often be found to trace back to instable/inadequate PSUs. I like the new Antecs personally. Good luck.

Hi JoeLogan,
I have your problem too! I'm going crazy!
The system freezes when it play some sound(wav,mp3,game's audio,ecc.).I'm not able to reboot it with "CTRL+CANC".
It happens in random mode.
I did many tests, but nothing.
I tried to change OS (Win XP Pro or Win ME),I disabled integrated audiocard on the motherboard,I changed HardDisk,I tried all driver's update, I changed IRQ to my hardware..BUT NOTHING! I DIDN'T RESOLVE THE PROBLEM!
I wrote an e-mail to ECHOAUDIO,but they didn't answer to me.
I need help! Help me Please!
I think the problem is an Hardware problem...I think that is the motherboard, but on website ECHOAUDIO wrote that AMD 761 chipset is compatible with DARLA.
My System:
Athlon XP 1.8(with integrated audio)
ASUS A7M 266 with AMD 761 chipset
512 MB DDR RAM
GeForce 2 Ti 64MB AGP
ECHOAUDIO DARLA24/96
HD IBM 60GB ATA100 7200rpm IDE
HD Quantum 20GB ATA100 7200rpm IDE
CD-ROM ASUS 48X
CD-WRITER PLEXTOR 16X

Sounds like a hardware problem. Have you tried clearing the CMOS or try reseting everything to default in your BIOS.

Hey! I can't believe I am just checking this. Well, for the record. I have an older Darla (24/96) card and a AMD Athlon with the via ka133x chipset. I have had the EXACT same problem as you. While you may believe me or not believe me, I'm fairly profficient at software and hardware configuration and I was dumbstruck by my inability to avoid the same hard lockup everytime I would send audio through the card. Two trips to echo (physically) and I just recently witnessed a kid plug it into a computer running 2000 and have it be able to playback. I know for certain that my card failed in XP and 98. They recommended getting either a new CPU or a mia card. I found a mia on ebay for 100 bucks and the rest is history. no more lockups. now i have to find someone running 2000 that wants a darla card...

Unfortunately, I just BOUGHT an Echo Mia and am having this phantom 'lockup' problem intermittently. Granted, I only got the card two days ago, but already it's locked up my machine more in 2 days than I saw in a year with the Turtle Beach Santa Cruz card. I don't know; maybe I should just stick with the more consumer oriented SC, and forget the more professional cards. With the SC, EVERYTHING in my system worked: System sounds; Media Player 6.4; everything. With the Mia, even though it's supposed to encompass both, I don't think it does so nearly as well as the SC did. The Mia did install like a dream, and it wasn't as tough (or as stupidly defaulted as the M-Audio 2496, that muted ALL channels by default) to configure as the 2496, but it just throws up more conflicts than the SC did.
I've got an Asus 333 mobo, 1GB ram, 2 80GB Maxtor HD's, W2K, Lite-On CDRW, Behringer mixer with balanced inputs.
