I recorded 16 tracks of live performance on my friend's Alesis HD24 and I transferred it in to my computer.
I am using Sonar 2.2 XL and When I play the whole thing I am experiencing dropouts. Longer the song, more frequent the drop.
Here is the setup
P4 2.4 512MB memory
60gig
the weakest link is the soundcard which is Soundmax soundcard that came integrated with dell that I bought.
is the dropout because of the soundcard?

is the dropout because of the soundcard?Bingo. You need a card with well written WDM or Asio drivers for Sonar.Sonar should also be run on Win XP or 2K.M-Audio(Audiophile) and Echo Audio(Mia) make great inexpensive cards with well written drivers if your on a budget.

I may be wrong here,
Alan can correct me.
Try running at less bit depth
like 24 or somthing, I doubt you'll have a big difference in the sound, being it's live.
also - yea probably a better soundcard too,
nd a good midi box with all the bells and whistles too, (long story).

Try running at less bit depth
like 24 or somthing, Onboard sound is usually restricted to 20 bit anyway. You can get away with playback at higher latencey's though. My advice still stands though, get a proper audio interface and OS.
