Hi, I'm currently running Sonar 2.2 with a Novation K-Station (MID IN/OUT/THRU) and a SBLiveDrive (MID IN/OUT).
I want to add a midi controller kb to my setup (MID OUT).
I want to be able to control everything from the controller kb.
What is the best way to configure the MIDI setup here? Will I need a midi interface box to accomplish this?
Thx in advance.

I will attempt to help. First off, I am not familiar with a Novation K Station.
Anyway, it doesn't matter what you are doing with midi. Keep in mind it is a serial interface and thus is exactly like your plumbing at home. Water comes in from the street, goes through one pipe to a single faucet or goes into a distribution point and out to several faucets. However, it must start at a single point.
Your beginning point is usually your controller. What is sending the note on, note off, velocity, etc. information? That should be the first in line. From that point, you can go to the midi in of another piece of equipment (Novation) and use the "midi thru" to go on to your midi input of the computer and to the sequencer software. Keep in mind, you can't use the Novation to send information, because there is nothing connected to it's "midi out" jack (unless it is a combination out/thru). The signal in gets routed directly to the "thru" jack.
If you want to use your Novation as a sound module only, you need to get midi to the midi input.
You can connect your controller midi output to the computer midi input. Connect the computer midi output to the Novation.
I am also not familiar with the midi implementation of your software, but most programs have a "midi thru" function that allows midi information to come in and go out on the same channel... for example, if you are sending drum information to your computer on midi channel 10, and recording it in your sequencer, you should be able to set your sound module to midi channel 10 and hear what you are recording as you record it and also on playback.
So, without knowing what you are using as a controller and not being certain of the Novation K Station functions, this is my best guess.
Here is an example of how my system is connected:
Alesis QS6 master controller. QS6 midi out to 4in 8 out midi router.
MIDI router out to QS6 midi in, EMU Vintage Keys module MIDI in, EMU Proteus FX module MIDI in, Lexicon LXP reverb MIDI in, Digitech Vocalist MIDI in, Alesis HR16 drum module MIDI in, MQX 32 computer dual port card MIDI in.
Whatever I play on the QS6 keyboard gets recorded into my computer. I can assign the midi output to any of the three sound modules or the drum machine all within my software (Master Tracks Pro).
If you don't have a midi router, you can use the in/out/thru to chain units together, but since the signal has to be recieved, manipulated in some fashion and routed to the thru, each piece of equipment on the chain affects the timing.
Hope this helps at least a bit..
