Hi everyone,

I'm having a lot o problems with my m-audio fw410 since I changed my desktop pc to a dual core pentium 3.0ghz. I'm using Sata II hard-drives for the first time too. The problem seems that IRQ sharing conflict but I checked all the IRQ configuration and there is not any sharing issues, I'm using a "conceptronic" ieee1394 pci adapter wich is alone at IRQ 18. What happens when I'm working at Live 6 for example is that I cant do any operation with the hard-drives, even a simple operation like open a plug-in causes a lot of dropouts that never stop sometimes, the CPU meter goes up to 200% +/- and the DAW doesn't respond anymore and crashes. (this happens even with media player playing mp3) Sometimes and in the best cenario I just ear some dropout from 2 in 2 minutes aprox. Make a track freeze or any bounce or mixdown is completly out of question, while this is processing the pc automaticaly turns off and when it reboots shows the windows error message telling that the system has recovered from a serious error. Any operation at the HD's as I said before, reflects on the audio performance. Sometimes I can solve the problem for a while if I change the buffer size and then change back to the previous size again. I have tried to use the card in other computers and it works perfectly I tried with diferent pci adapters on my new pc and no changes at all. I contacted the M-audio support and the guy told me about the IRQ sharing conflicts but I don't think is that the problem. I'm just sick of all this and I'm starting to consider changing my desktop again. Theres is nothing more frustrating than have all the equipment and can't work with it. Anyone can help me please?
Here is my setup:

Pentium D 3.0 Ghz
Motherboard: ASRock 775 dual 880 pro
2 GB ram
2x SATA II 250 Gb HD's
Graphics Nvidia 7300 LE
Conceptronic firewire pci adapter

Thanks in advance

Does your FireWire card have a Texas Instruments chipset? If not, that could be your problem right there.

Thanks Techknowlegy,

The card has a VIA chipset. I heard it before about the good relation between Texas Instruments chipset and the Firewire cards.
I will just try to find out one of this adapters and later I tell something about the results.

Ok, I've just solved my problem, I founded a Belkin firewire card with Ti chipset but it made no diference at all, so the only way was a new motherboard, and that's what I did I bought an Asus P5KPL with Intel G31 chipset and at the same time took up the chance and upgraded my ram to 4Gb. It's working perfect again and with the difference that this Mb works much better in all senses than the ASrock one, at least, for my needs.
