hi im new to this, im looking to build a pretty simple recording studio in order to expand with probably the extension of a mixer
i have a laptop with vista with a 4 pin fire wire jack and am looking at a either an inspire presonus or a behringer f202 because my budget is really small
i've heard that there could be problems with the 4 pin with audio interfaces and also that i might need ti chip. i live in australia so range for alot of things is very small but im wondering if ti chipset would help and be reasonably easy to find. But any help or advice anyone has would be great
thanks

As far as my reading takes me, the only downside to a 4pin FW connection is that it cannot power an external AI. But this might not be the biggest of your problems.

I know Blista is gaining ground but it is not the best news for audio work and certainly not for beginners because most of the cheap&free stuff won't have been written for it.

FW too has its problems especially I read with lappies. I would look to a usb solution, Fasttrack pro for ex' maybe with a small mixer* as the pre's on the pro don't have much gain (as with a lot of AI's). Next you need to seriously consider monitors, you CAN work with headphonesd to some extent but not for the "finished" product.

Whatever AI you go for get a solid exchange/refund agreement sorted.

*I can vouch for the Behringer Xenyx 802 in this context.
