Hello,
I'm running a brand new Inspire 1394 on a 2.16 ghz Macbook with a gig of ram.
I record guitar, bass, and drums all through the 1/4" inputs (my mics are somewhat cheap and use 1/4" cables).
With either the guitar or bass put through directly, there is a quiet but audible noise level when i turn the gain up to around 12 o'clock. With gain full and boost on, the noise level is completely unbearable (not that I would ever use it that high).
With every guitar/bass/mic unplugged, the noise drops off a lot. Not all the way, but definitely a lot quieter.
I've tried every patch chord I own with every mic, bass, and guitar I own. I've still got this stupid background noise when anything is plugged in.
I should mention that it gets really bad whenever i use my NI GuitarRig plugin as an amp simulator. However, when recording drums with my fairly quiet mics, the background noise is audible. Quiet, but audible in the mix.
Is this normal? Should I just upgrade to a FireBox?
Or am I doing something wrong?
