I am having trouble installing my m-audio firewire solo on windows vista 32-bit. I just bought a new laptop (Core 2 Duo 1.66ghz, 2 gb ram, 200 gb harddrive, TI Firewire, 15.4").

I tried following the instructions from m-audio's official website (http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.faq&ID=ec9d3eb8686d155d97fd41eabb8ea362) numerous times, but I've failed each time.

The problem happens when I do the firewire enabler. I unplug the m-audio, then let it install stuff, and then it asks me for a driver from the CD, but most of the time that I got to this step, it said it failed to find the driver files no matters where I told it to look (CD, m-audio folders, vista update driver file). A few times it actually found something and said it installed successfully, but then never got to the final step of opening up the m-audio control panel. It just froze there.

I haven't called tech support yet, but probably will soon. Does anyone have any idea what is going on? Do you think my firewire ports are dead on the FW solo?

Hello,

I bought my Firewire Solo 2 days ago and installed it on my Vista without any problems.

Because only XP drivers were included on the install CD, I downloaded Vista drivers from this adress:

http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.drivers&f=857

I installed this driver while FW Solo was unplugged. After installation I shut down my computer, plugged in Firewire Solo, opened my computer, after login m-audio setup started again and updated the FW Solo firmware, and then voila, everything was working fine.

You may try to uninstall all the drivers you have previously installed and follow those steps.

Hope this helps...

that's weird. I did the same steps you did, but when I started my computer back up after plugging in my FW solo, it didn't automatically go back to m-audio setup and update the FW solo firmware. Instead I had to click on the Firewire enabler from m-audio, and I followed the instructions on the m-audio website, but it never successfully installed.

I tried uninstalling/re-installing many times (takes me around 20 minutes each time I try to install!). I have yet to get it to work.

Do you think the firewire ports on the FW solo are dead? Because my old desktop that is Win XP, doesn't work anymore because the mobo has issues. While it had issues, the computer loaded up successfully once, but my soundcard all the sudden wouldn't work and it told me the soundcard wasn't plugged in, but I had the firewire cable plugged in and the FW solo's blue light was on.

I am sorry, I have no idea whether your ports or dead or not.

from this point it is probably better contacting support.

good luck with that...
