hello i am posting again this thread ´cause maybe it had the wrong name...so here is it again i hope someone could help me a little here.:)

i know sx3 is not fully vista compatible but steinberg also says it runs on vista ( " not known issues" ) i got cubase sx installed on vista home premium with yamaha 01x, working and solid i only have this problem when cubase freezes 2 or 5 seconds when i switch between channels i though it was a lack of ram, i only have 1 GB, but never crashes and no funny things , i found out that this hanging problem is related to record enable in tracks, if i deactivate the auto record enable in preferences the hanging is fixed,if i manually set record on a new track it hangs again, does anybody knows something about this? maybe some setting in vista to fix the problem??

 just as a note : is not 01x driver related because with the built-in audio card hapens the same even if i deactivate the vst inputs. 99% stable just this little hang on record enable.

i´ll apreciatte any answers related to this problem, even not solved ones.:o

Its me again :) Have you posted at Cubase.net? I don't know how many here are using SX on Vista.

When you enable record, Cubase is setting up a call to the audio card driver, since Vista uses a different hardware abstract layer than XP to access drivers, it may be hanging because of the extra processing that needs to take place. This may or may not be taking place - I don't know, it's a thought. Try disabling any network cards and see what happens, I seem to remember Vista doing something goofy with multimedia streams and the network cards (two things you would think don't have anything to do with one another).

There also could be something going on with the Vista DRM - it might be looking for a flag; when you hit the record button for a track, SX is telling Vista that its going to be streaming and writing audio, the DRM might be saying - "ok, lets setup the DRM stuff to make sure no pirating is going on".

I am also moving this to the Vista forum, Matt from Sweetwater may have a better answer since he is the Vista moderator.

I am blindly putting out suggestions so take them with a grain of salt.

Hmmm...I smell a slow hard drive....It may also be due to a delay due to indexing of the hard drive. Have you tried turning it off? The PC Optimization Guide in the Resource Center here (top o th page) has some other good drive-related speed tips.
