well ebay came through again.
I took my own advice and picked up a new pc.
this one cost me just over 200 bucks.
is an "old" dell precision 470

i searched far and wide looking for a specific computer that would run my Osprey video capture card

which has a 64bit pci-x interface. while the pci-x is 'backwards" compatable with pci, it just kept crashing my pc.
only dual core work stations host the pci-x interface which is being replaced with the pci-e interface.

if you look at this mother board, you can see the pci-x slots next to the standard pci slots.
the pc itself sports dual pentium xeon 3.2 ghz processors with 2 gigs of PC2-3200 Registered ECC DDR2 SDRAM and a dual head dvi pci express 16x graphics card by nvidia.
the chipset is the intel e7525
here is the mobo for the 470.

i have several sata hard drives that i will install in it.
the puter can support up to 16 gigs of ram.
at the same time, it is so so so sad that companies and government agencies are replacing their machines every couple of years and wasting taxpayers dollars on top of the line machines to surf the internet and make powerpoint presentations.
oh well, at least the technology trickles down.
cheers!
