For some reason, any sort of streaming audio on my desktop is causing clipping/squeaking/popping noises when the hard drive is accessed. It sounds like freakin' morse code. It's not a bandwidth issue because my laptops aren't having this problem and this problem has only started happening over the past month or so.

Is this a codec issue? I've got XP, 2.4 GHz, 2 gigs of ram. This happens with any sort of streaming: Sirius, Youtube, FineTune, etc. I noticed on YouTube files, once the file is downloaded it plays fine, it's just any time it accesses the hard drive.

I'm wondering if this is related to the OgVorbis codec that I had to install when I reinstalled a drum machine program. It seems to have coincided with each other. Any thoughts?

I think you have shielding issues. Your harddrives are creating electrical noise that is being picked up by your audio interface.

Now, solving that problem can be very tricky. The interference can be introduced in cabling or the interface itself. However, which ever one it is i bet it has soming to do with a grounding issue.

Could a new sound card fix the shielding issue?
