Hi folks,
I'm a keyboardist looking to branch out and plug an electric guitar into my Yamaha MW10 USB mixer. Is there any risk of blowing the channel, damaging the mixer, etc.? Do I need a DI box? My amplifier, a Fender Deluxe 85, does have an output jack. Is it better to use that?
Thanks!
Hi SteelEDan, welcome to the Forums.
Your best bet, tone wise, would be to record the Fender via mic.
Otherwise a D.I. into a channel on your board will work.
Don't be afraid to experiment, a guitars' pick up output is very low, so really
no chance of hurting anything...besides your ears.:)

Thanks Phil. I'll try both and see how it sounds.

If you have almost any kind of guitar pedal that can be used as an impedance converter/signal booster and you should get a better quality sound than going straight in the line in, maybe better than a cheap DI box. In most cases, pedals still "work" even when not being an effect so you can record "dry".
As has been said, micing up a cab can be a nice way to do it but can also be frustrating to get a good sound if the room is poor and you can't make the right amount(lots!) of noise. Don't forget you have TWO tracks so you can have DI'd dry git and a cab contribution and then mix and match in comfort.
I happen to know there are some SOOOPER pedals on the market now with a real high voltage valve stage and a separate cab sim' out.
Dave.
