info:
-Win Vista
-Edirol FA-66
Can anyone help me with this situation.
i've connected my new mic into fa-66 (XLR to input #1 at the front)
For some reason FA-66 (or vista; dont know yet which one) wont give any sound from the mic.
i've tried to record with Windows Voice recorder and with sound forge. Voice recorder gives message "no audio device" (or something like that).
So do i need to somehow "activate"/turn on the inputs form vista?

You've installed the Vista drivers from Edirol, correct?
What version of Sound Forge are you using?

yes, i have vista drivers...
i removed the fa-66 from devices, and re-installed it; now it's recording, but only on mono...
i'm using sound forge 8.0

A mic signal is typically mono. Unless you are using a stereo microphone, which is usually pretty rare. You can set Sound Forge to record in Stereo, but it will most likely just duplicate one of your mono channels, or record Left or Right depending upon which input you have selected. Maybe you could give some more details about your audio chain? What kind of mic, and which input on the FA-66 you're using?

mic is Shure SM58-lc

mic it's connected to Input#1 at the front panel (XLR)...
and sound forge is recording from fa-66-1; (for the input 1, (in device menu) there is also 'fa-66-1 left' and 'fa-66-1 right'... )

Everything appears to be functioning as expected then. You will only get a mono signal from one mic. If you've got a good clean signal, then there isn't much else you can hope for out of that setup (or any other setup for that matter). Is there something else that you'd like to accomplish?

so i get the same result if i use the stereo rec. in sound forge; or just copy/mix the mono signal into both channels (left and right)?

Sound Forge has a channel converter effect, if you want to turn mono into stereo or vice versa. However, why do you want a stereo recording in the first place? You should reserve the move to stereo for your final mixdown, IMHO.
