Hello,
I just recently bought a new dell xps 1530 laptop.
It's being built at the moment, but I'd like to prepare myself for the hell'ish experience I've heard others speak of in reference to Vista.
My first question is, is Vista really that bad?
Lastly, I'd like to know if Vista is compatible with ACID Pro 6.0d, M-Audio MobilePre USB audio interface, and M-Audio Oxygen 49 Key...
Also, does anybody use any of these VST's and know their compatibility w/ Vista?
-M-Audio Key Rig
-M-Audio Drum and Bass Rig
-East West Symphonic Orchestra Silver
Any help would be much appreciated...
I apologize if I've reasked a question.
I searched around the forum but couldn't find answers...

All M-Audio compatibility is listed here: http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support&tab=driver
The Kompakt player (with the EWSO) is supported by NI on Vista. EW will be releasing their own engine at some point, which will be Vista-compatible as well. No ETA on that, though.
ACID 6 is not supported on Vista, but ACID 7 will be, when it's released. However, mnay people have reported success with it.
No, Vista is not that bad. I've been using it since February. As long as you stick to compatible software and hardware, and take care of it, you should be fine. The Optimization Guide in the Resource Center at the top of the page will also help reduce some of the most common Vista headaches for audio users.

I've got the M-Audio Oxygen and it works fine with Vista. The only compatibility problem I've had is with my Tascam US144, but after some tinkering it's now fine. Maybe it's due to the relative simplicity of my setup, but I've had none of the issues with Vista that others report. Just be sure to look on the software and hardware company website to find Vista drivers, most of these products are shipped only with XP drivers.

Actually, I have a pretty basic setup with Acid Pro 6, a Software Synth, (Kontakt 3), and a M-audio Oxygen 61 MIDI Controller. I have two Computers, one runs XP, and another running Vista. (I currently run this setup on my XP Machine...
I had the same setup on my Vista machine, I had no problems using Acid Pro 6stand alone, and no problems using Kontakt stand-alone. However when incorporated together, i.e; when I inserted the soft synth Kontakt 3 from within Acid Pro, the sounds would not emulate correctly. Looped audio still sounded fine. Eventually it would crash, though.
Sony claims that the soon to be released Acid Pro 7, will be compatible with Vista. I do not feel that using Acid Pro 6 will be problematic with Vista as long as you use nothing but audio files... I haven't tried using other MIDI software Synths.
