Logic Audio Big Box
version 5.3.0
Mac OS 9.1
Blue & White G3, 400mhz, 384mb RAM
Korg 1212 I/O sound card
Midiman Oxygen 8 MIDI controller/ USB interface
OMS v.2.3.8
Problem:
1. I am attempting to configure my Midiman Oxygen 8 controller with Logic Audio 5. In trying to set-up the DATA FLOW in the Environment window described on p.65-68 of the manual, I cannot achieve a response (MIDI IN) signal from the Oxygen to Logic with a "Physical Input". I have tried to configure it with the "Sequencer Input" also, but the virtual cabling will not attach itself the same way (?). Also, in both the Audio Instrument and MIDI Instrument tracks of the Arrange Window the Record (R) button does not appear. It DOES appear on the audio track channels, and I have successfully recorded regular audio tracks, so I know it's not the sound card.
The channel lists the MIDI input name "KEYSTATION" so I believe it is recognizing the unit (Oxygen 8 is a MIDI Keystation Controller). In the upper L hand corner of the Transport window I see it's receiving MIDI information (but only when I specify Sequencer Input in the Environment), but when I hit PLAY (as described in the manual) there is no sound generated.
I can patch the Oxygen 8 through an Audio Instrument channel, specify a virtual instrument (synth, sampler, etc.) and get a signal AND sound response, but in order to record I have to use the record button on the Transport window, not the (R) button (which is missing) on the channel itself, is this normal for it to be missing? In the manual, all the tracks have RECORD (R) buttons.
Can anyone provide the step by step process (or near it) for a OXYGEN 8 MIDI CONTROLLER (no internal sounds in the controller unit) to trigger the MIDI tracks? Also, how to set-up the Environment Window for this type of unit. (I don't really understand how it's working in the Audio Instrument tracks cuz obviously the Environment set-up is not complete/accurate...)
Are the Audio Instrument Inserts the only thing the OXYGEN 8 can trigger?
P.S.
The manual (which I have, alotta help it does...geez it's like Greek!) makes extensive mention of the Demo/Tutorial Song. As far as I can tell, the installer does not install a Demo/Tutorial Song, nor does one exist on the Installer CD that comes with the BIG BOX. Where is it, and/or where can I get it?
Thanks for your help,
