Advice?

I am running Windows Vista and Live 06, and a Line 6 KB37. I would like to 1) create music notation using step entry and the keyboard and 2) access the GM sounds on my sound card from the midi controller just to have a keyboard to play. Any suggestions?

I have Finale 2002, but the keyboard tools are a bit lame... and the KB37 causes it to lock up.
