A basic question: if you use the q10, can you hear any effects that you want to add while you are recording (through the headphones), or is the sound "dry," only hearing the effects when played back? And is "dry" sound when recording the usual situation for most sound cards?

Ken - I have a Q10 and really like it. You have several choices:

1. Use the analog 1/4" inserts and use an outboard analog processor (ie: tube compressor, reverb, limiter, etc). This would mean you would monitor wet and record the effect. What you hear is what you record. Very nice for just adding a little compression. Then you can go back and add more effects in the software.

2. Just use the plug-in or other software effects in the recording software. The latency is good with Cubase VST and can do this is almost real-time. You can monitor wet and you can record either wet or dry.

I love the inserts since I have some analog gear, but there's so many plug-in effects these days I find myself using more and more of them.
