I realized that the Presonus FIREstation is not my problem beacuse downloaded files and other audio plays fine. Only when I play audio that I recorded in through the soundcard do I get the strange noise in the background.
What I do is play a record into the software and then I stop the record while still recording. The noise is more pronounced this way as it is not masked by the music. Is this a driver issue? The noise is really bugging me and I wonder if anyone else has noise in their recordings. Please let me know if there is a solution. Thanx in advance.

What does the noise sound like? Could be a hardware issue/conflict.

I think yproblem is that your using the onboard soundcard at all. With the firestation you should be able to bypass the soundcard at all times-recording, playback, burning, etc. by setting it up that way in your software. Unless you have a really good soundcard, you can often hear processor and fan noise causing strange audio artifacts--beeps, pops, high freq sustaining (but pitch shifting in time with the processor) tones--all kinds of unwanted stuff. If you avoid using the internal soundcard at all, and rely on the solid piece of gear the FS is, you should have good results. Even if your soundcard is good, having both the soundcard and FS active could also cause problems.
