hey everyone ok here is the stupid sound guy question of the day
I am just about completed building my medium size foh system minus a few componets ie x over . eq,(ordeing soon sweetwater )

I am looking at 3 way speaker systems for lagrer venue stuff so here is the question i understand bi amping and of course stereo and mono pa configs but some of the packged systems i have been looking at come with 2 subs 2 3 way mains xover and 3 amps in the main rack and 2 amps in sub rack and one input on each main speaker so how do you split it up i get the sub
rack one for each side but then you get to the main rack and three amps two speakers ??? this is where i got lost

thanks

If there's only one input on each main speaker then they aren't biampable or triampable. They'll have passive crossovers inside. If there are two mains and two subs and the mains can't be biamped, then I'd think an amp for each would be as much as you could use, so I'm not sure of the exact details of that system.

To tri-amp your mains, you would need speakers capable of it, and then two 4-way mono crossovers. (because with subs it's really a quad amped system)

thanks the mains do have a switch on the rear input panel to allow the mains to be bi/tri amped and i probaly should have said that

the systems I am looking at are a carvin trx or jbl with 2 or 4 srx 722 s along with two subs and using qsc amps and of course xovers but it is a little confusing regarding the connections of the system in that particular config
since i haven't worked with that type of a system before I undestand the concept of why you divde the signal path and how but the input or connections of the system is where i am stalled

thanks

hey everyone did a little more research into how to tri amp so here it goes
the carvin system i am looking at is equipped with both NL4 And NL 8 connectors NL 8 having a 8 conductor wire (4 pair ) as you already know so the question remains how to connect from the amps using nl4 s to the cabs with nl8s so far i found one place that makes the boxes]
does anyone else have a source or idea

thanks

amrg, I don't have alot of experience with speakon NL4/8 is this it? and...limited with 3channel xover...in 3 way its just high/mid/sub combo and all we ever used was a single mono amp for each of course the highend tweeter/horn section only needs 50-100 watts usually, then the midrange and subs are increased to speaker potential, but...having a (basically) volume control on each xover channel is way cool...I would think Carvin, JBL or others would have downloadable pdif on wiring diagrams or assist you via mail/phone with question on their higher end systems... hope this helps some. 87'

i was wondering if you could post pictures of the back of all your equipment showing the connectors.

then this can be cleared up in one post.

one more reason i love the internet, it is exceedingly visual, and with the advent of 5 dollar digital cameras and free photo hosting like www.Photobucket.com, there is no reason that someone cant post pictures.

any way sorry for my rant, but it sounds like a simple matter. However, nomenclature is lost like sarcasm is when type is only used for communication.

It is true that a pictures is worth a thousand words, but in the virtual world, a picture can also be worth a thousand languages.

cheers

hey guys thanks for the help on this one i was able to find out some stuff on the carvin forum site from other trx owners on how the connections go
so here is the answer each of thier systems do come with a spool of 8 conductor wire and connectors so what i have to do is makeup the cables by taking 1 pair of wires to a nl4 connector for each of the amps then the other end of the cable has a nl8 speakon connector that has all 8 conductors connected to it and then plug in to the speaker then just set the bypass switch and done by the way I did try to upload an image from thier website of the back of trx 153 s wouldn't let me sorry sabi i did pickup a couple of nice tips on how other folks have done this one guy told me he just madeup
a panel with nl4 connectors installed on it in the back of his rack and just ran the indivual cables form those to the amps and the other end was connected to the nl8 so looks like i have some options
on how to do it
