My tweeter blew on a gig, totally sucks

so i called Mackie, the cab was under warranty i tole them what happened and they sent me a tweeter for free.

well it shows up in the mail today, no instructions, just a tweeter (HF voice coil or HF driver), what ever you may call it.

it was wrapped quite well in bubble wrap so i took it out and proceeded to replace the driver myself.
I photo documented what i did in case anybody else might want to reference this surgery.

here goes>>>>

then i reversed the process.

the wrench size to pull the bolts off the voice coil attaching it to the horn is a 8 mm

these cab's are built very well

here is a shot of the input circuit board (very simple) these cabs can eaisly be modified to run with an active crossover should the internal passive one fail.

I've performed a similar procedure on an EAW cab before (drivers also made by RCF) If you ever burn a voice coil on that and it's out of warranty, you can actually take the HF driver apart and replace the voice coil. Very different from some molded plastic HF drivers I've seen. *cough*...Peavy...*cough* Great move by Mackie buying RCF. Top notch stuff.

i agree with you, the RCF stuff is superior, the voice coil on the tweeter is accessible via 4 star headed screws on the back and 4 phillips screws on the front.

I intend on picking apart the old driver and voice coil to see if i can just replace the coil.

ill post pictures of the surgery when i get around to doing it.
