What a nightmare! That's why I'm posting in the Vista area. I know you all can relate.
I've had two different Audigy cards in the past 5 years and it's been great. Then I get a Vista machine (yeah, I know...) and find that virtually none of the Creative software works with Vista. The soundcard sounds like ca-ca and eventually doesn't work at all.
So I read all the reviews on Amazon and find that the Razer Barracuda gets high marks and the beta driver for Vista seems to be just fine. So I buy one. Installed it today.
It does indeed sound great, even with my two lowly stereo Klipsch speakers. Much better than Audigy. I have analog cables hooked in from my DVD drives. Tha'ts the only wiring I did. BUT!!!! I can't record a darn thing!
At one point with the lame-oid Audigy card I could at least record using Nero, although I prefer my trusty Cool Edit 2000 as that's what I use for editing. It's imperative that I be able to record talk off the Internet and with the XP-compatible Creative software I could set the source as "What U Hear." Didn't matter where it came from (except patched in thru the front panel, but that was easy to figure out), Cool Edit had no problem. Now NOTHING will record.
In the sources section of the recording tab of the Barracuda software, I have a whopping three choices: S/PDIF, Mic and Line In. None of those seem right. There is virtually no documentation, but I assume selecting "monitoring" means that becomes the main source?
Any ideas? Or have I just blown a bunch of money on a card that won't be suitable?
If this won't work, is there a decent soundcard that will allow me to record off the web? I'd really rather not install XP. I think I've bought at least 3 copies so far, for various computers, and I refuse to buy another one! The last one went to my brother with the older XP computer.
I REALLY appreciate some help. I'm pulling my hair out here!
Thanks!
