I picked up three of these guys as a replacement for the floor monitors on stage.
I do not have a whole lotta room in my Jetta Wagon for my gear so any piece of equipment that is small and compact is worth a bunch to me.

I have used these for about 5 gigs now to complement a 10 piece band here in the Washington D.C. area.

They are small consisting of a box that is about 13 inches by 7 inches by 6 inches deep and weigh in at about 15 pounds each. They sport dual long throw high power 4 or 5 inch drivers capable of handling 100 watts each giving these monitors a 200 watt capacity. the high sensitivity of the drivers make these monitors exceptionally loud. and the small driver diameter really reduce feedback by limiting the frequency range to about that of the h8uman voice.

I set 2 of these up on microphone stand in front of the singers and send them a dedicated mix of just them selves. then i set one up for the drummer so he can hear the vocals and the horn section.

the only complaint i get from the talent from time to time is "can you turn these down?"

I drive them with the QSC plx 1602 power amplifier which is plenty of power to run them at nominal levels without clipping.

one issue i have with them is the volume control switch on the face, the volume control gives control to the singers through a switch that in essence changes the Impedance which adjusts the level of the monitors. I had some issues with variable impedance when the singers try to adjust the volume throwing off the amplifiers ability to send an undistorted signal.

the fix is to open up the box and bypass the impedance switch.
the other mod i tried was to add a microphone base screw to the top of the monitor box so i can add a microphone extension arm, this works well for some applications but i find that i don't use it that often.

over all, i am happy with the monitors and if you need a good compact monitor, the Galaxy Hot Spot monitor is a good piece of equipment if you have a lack of space and don't have the budget for an in-ear monitor system.

I just bought a Boss MA-15 powered monitor off Craigslist for $40 that is exactly like the Galaxy monitor, only powered. It sounds pretty neat.

Back in the 70's we used Mitchell mic stand mounted monitors and were very happy with them.

I use a small 8" wedge monitor cabinet with a Motorola horn in it mounted to my keyboard stand driven with a 100 watt Stewart amp and it works great. I love having the monitors close.
