I just got a Motu 8pre 2 days ago. I sold my old interface (Delta 1010 and DMP3) in order to buy something more portable and that gave me more built in pres. The 8pre fit those specs since it connects with firewire and has 8 built in pres so I can finally record my drums with ease :D
Im a little dissapointed because the pres seem a little dull to me - and I only had a DMP3 to compare them to. The DMP3 is another one of the most inexpensive pres you can get...so.. thats not saying a whole lot. However I kind of prepared myself for this since I heard the Motu pres arent really that great.
But, for the price (and what I was willing to pay!) I dont think it can be beat. It gives me the option to expand with ADAT in the future in case I decide save up and get a really nice 8 channel pre to sync it with.....
But when it comes down to it, this is home recording. Until im ready to spend the $$$ to get nice pres, mics, and of course acoustic treatment, im going to make the best with what I have and try to learn everything inside out.
But yeah, other than that it installed with on problem and so far has been working great!
