I kind of thought the Hot Dog would get more attention that anything else.

but

I was digging the singer sitting down to the right of my loud speaker...
she has a real sweet voice. I found myself soloing her most of the night..

actually, the boat is a flat bottom boat, and you can barely feel any movement, I was afraid of the list and had reservations about setting up 100 lb speakers on sticks. I was surprised by the stability.

I thought they were funny too when i saw them for the first time. i don't think i would have opted for them if it was my band. they just pay me to make them sound good, not look good.

i do provide some rudimentary lighting though.

I use 2 Color Bank 8s by Chauvet bolted to the top of the speakers. nice lights, easy to hack and the bulbs can be bought at homo depot.

Do I have to use the $1mil for an DVD audio system?

its like the person who spends 3 grand on a cd player made out of granite so he can hear his 16 bit recordings with superior sonic quality.

nagal
06-08-2007, 11:56 AM
nah its not the same because the granite is all about style ;)

sabianq

i know that if i spend 40 grand on a speaker cable, i would completly believe that the cable will make the recording sound just like the instrument player is sitting in my living room regardless of the type and quality of the recording equipment.

you cant argue with an audiophile

I know that if I spent 40k on cables it would not really matter because I have way too much money to even worry about it :D

I know that I would never spend $40k on cables and get a car or a TV or a field instead.

that is the SR24 pro. I really like it, it sounds quite transparent and most of the faders are in real nice condition. i just wish there were more matrix options, but the reason i got that board was for the insert jacks on each buss. I looked at so many boards in that price range (500.00) and without going out and buying a new Onyx 24 by Mackie (1500.00), this was the only board that sported the insert jacks on each buss.

I had the Soundcraft Studio 24 that had a lot of routing options but there were some pre amps in the board that were damaged so i had to return the board :( and look for another solution.

regardless, I am quite pleased with the SR24, I have abused it quite a bit with it being on the road and it seems to be holding up quite well.

Cool... I am considering stepping up in channels for my live sound mixer and have considered the Mackie lower priced mixers. I am using a Soundcraft now which has inserts on the main output busses but is only 12 channels and even though that is sufficient for the festivals where I do sound (bluegrass), I am going to eventually have to step up to a 16 channel board and get a 16 channel snake.

I have a Behringer 32 input rack mount mixer in my band PA rig, but even though I have had pretty good luck with Behringer stuff, I think Mackie would be a better idea. What I really want is an Allen & Heath mixwizard.

yea, i looked at all of those, (I really wanted the Midas compact mixer but my wife would have killed me)

I really like the mackie, you can pick them up on the cheap on eBay, they seem to come in waves, being sought after one month and the next, no one wants them. i got mine on eBay and it came with a case for 500) Just make sure you get the PRO version, it has the Grey knobs, not the red ones on the aux sends. also the non-pro doesnt let you prefade the aux sends..

Mine really does get bumped around a lot but it is seeming to hold up well. another nice feature, the channel strips (are printed on one very large circuit board unlike your Soundcraft which has individual circuit boards for each channel strip) are still independent of each other so if one has a problem, it wont cause the whole board to crap out.

on a side note, what is making you gravitate to the Allen&heath Mixwizard?

I have a couple of friends who run huge multi system sound companies and they both swear by the Mixwizard, as do most of the members of other live sound forums. They are reliable and clean, although not cheap.

I have nothing against Mackie boards either, although I would not buy a mixer off ebay.. something about ebay scares me. I prefer to be able to check out any used gear in person. It's just me being old school...

sabianq, just wanted to add something about the Riverboat Cruise, along time ago (on a river far away) haha our band did a river cruise, we set-up on the bow of the boat, outside, and when the boat reached its turn around point the wind blew everything over (including beer bottles), the wind had changed on us, it was terrifying lol.

and...regarding the mixers, I've had a Soundcraft FX16 for 5 years now, similar to the A&H board you're talking about GZ, its been a good haul around live board for me, no problems and it sounds nice and has alot of features. Midas was a top contender for me when I got the Ghost.
