Hi,
I just wanted to extend my experience with the shure wireless microphone line.
There are many different versions of the wireless system by Shure, so i decided to lump them all together into one thread.
I have extensively use the PGX, SLX, ULX and the UHF-R.
and will add to this as time premits.

lets start with the PGX system by Shure.

I have used this system numerous times in the live field. The sonic quality is really nice for such a low cost microphone. ($400.00 US)

the frequency channel selection is not as extensive as the as the ULX and UHF-R line but it gives sufficient flexibility to run several of these units together.

The range of this system seems to be about 200 feet in a straight line and just over 100 feet when separated by walls.

it has a selectable line level/ microphone level balanced XLR out which makes it nice for running into your line level mixer if you are doing DJ work.

One thing i don't like about this unit, Unlike the other handheld microphone transmitter offered by shure, the Gain pot in the microphone is not a potentiometer but a switch located under the capsule and can be hard to get to in a pinch and only lets you select the gain from 0db or -10db.

regardless, if you are looking for an affordable wireless microphone, the PGX series by Shure is a nice choice for the money.

The shure wireless SLX system.

I have used this system a couple of times in conference rooms, it is a very easy set up with a lot of flexibility. The Beta capsule is very good at picking up the nuances of the spoken word, but it can be susceptible to feed back if the gain is set to high. but the microphone itself seems to be pretty immune to clipping.

Sonically, the system is on par with the best of Shures wireless transmitters like the UHF-R.

I really like using this system as it has an exceptional range extending out over 200 feet and a good battery life running into almost 9 hours of use on one pair of AA's.

the microphone transmits its battery usage to the base unit. making it convenient for the engineer to monitor the batteries keeping embarrassing microphone failures at bay.

the 524 MHz - 865 MHz frequency range makes it able to operate in just about any environment with the ability to tune out erroneous transmissions.

over all, this is a fantastic unit. but the price can be a bit overwhelming for the average person and this system isn't normally bought as a system, you need to purchase the units individually.

these are the Gems of the live world.
I cant say enough good stuff about these babies.
if you can find a complete system for less than 1000.00 i suggest you get it.

this system is down right amazing.
first off, they are bullet proof, the technology is built on a steel chassis that is rack mountable. the dual units are real nice, you can back 12 of these babies in a 6 space rack. the antennas can be interlinked to one diversity unit making a real stream lined system.

the transmitters are super quiet boasting a "real" 100 db S/N ratio. and the 10 milliwatt transmitter can send information well over 500 feet through walls and 1600 feet in line of sight.

the 100 db dynamic range keeps this microphone from clipping even in the most demanding environments. the SM58 capsule is fantastic at keeping feedback down.

one really cool feature is the wireless work bench.
this is a very cool program that will turn a receiver into a radio spectrum analyser. it automatically scans the frequencies and tells you which frequencies are open so you can program your microphones to frequencies that are not being broadcast on by local tv stations or other transceivers

The fine frequency control lets you pick 2400 frequencies with in a 60 MHz band which works out to a 25 KHz step.

2 AA batteries make for a long 10 hour continuous use microphone.
over all, this is a true work horse.
