Hey everyone

this actually has nothing to do with audio production but I used to come here and the answers where always good so ... well anyways

I was given an old but possibly half-decent pair of speakers which have the speakerwire inputs. Basically ... is there anyway I can wire speakerwire to an rca/phono plug?

thanks

How are you planning to drive the speakers? I'm guessing they aren't powered (meaning they don't have a built in amplifier)? You'll need an amp of some kind (which can be built into something as simple as a boom-box or other kind of receiver). Those will usually come with speaker terminal connections. But if you've already got that covered and the output on your source (whatever it is) only has RCA/Phono plugs--hopefully someone else knows how to make that connection. Sorry!

A lot of old Sony speakers came with RCA's to fit music centres. IF you are saying the speakers have RCA connectors on them, just chop 'em off and fit appropriate to your amp. Most amps these days have spring terminals. Better one have 4mm binding posts.
Whatever you do make certain not to short the speaker outputs.

No, the speakers have the speaker wire terminals. I don't even have an amp, lol, now I feel like an idiot.

any suggestions for a cheap amp I can use for a home theatre kinda setup?

If by home theatre you mean a Dolby 5.1 set up look for an AV amp.Denon make a wide range and people are always upgrading. But in truth it is really hard to make a "bad" amplifier these days, until you get into the esoterics they all use much the same chips.
