View Full Version : M-Audio Firewire Audiophile
Hello all,
It would seem that there is an easy setting change that would solve this,
but it has eluded me this far.
This is the first sound card I've bought.
I have little experience,
so please give a thorough reply.
The device volume in my cpanel is set on low
and doesn't allow the volume to be changed. Is this a permanent limit
set for the card or is there a way to increase it?
All of the other volume controls, both windows and the Audiophile
driver's, are set on max and free moving except for the one that matters most.
Any help would be appreciated,
Bidd

Is this thing that is ‘set on low' labeled "device volume"?
On which page of the Control Panel is it displayed?
What is the undesirable symptom(s) of this setting?
Does the manual say anything about this control?
Thanks for the quick response.
It's labeled device volume and is on the first page of the control panel's Sounds and Audio Devices. The undesirable symptom is that I'm unable to make my volume equal that of my band-mate (who has a Revolution 7.1 sound card) within a desirable range. What sparked this question is that he is able to adjust his device volume to within 60% of his sound card's max, which he says is where its supposed to be, while mine is fixed at the lowest setting.
The manual only refers to the Firewire Audiophile's control panel, not the sound card's integrated controls with Windows XP Pro.
Thanks for the reply,
Bidd

I am not familiar with any profession audio card that uses the OS mixer controls. Since this card has its own control panel, I would not expect any Windows controls to effect it. Since the manual does not the mention Windows controls, that lends evidence to the belief that they are irrelevant, thus explaining why this particular control in non-functional. Do other controls on the Windows mixer effect the Audiophile?
The practical side of your situation is that your playback output is too low? What do you mean "within a desirable range"? What is producing the sound you are comparing to that of your band-mate? Is it the same as the one you are trying to match (both amplifier and transducer)?

In that case, I think it's time to give technical support a call. It could be a defective device or something. Also, check your warranty.

i don't recommend using Windows Sound and Audio cpanel as the master volume control. i usually set the PC device to my soundblaster for everyday PC sound, and a direct I/O to amplifier for music sound.
btw, m-audio FireWire (410?) came with its own cpanel/mixer which can be open from the taskbar or Control Panel.

Just check in "hardware settings" that you have the "consumer level " box ticked and not "-10dBV".
