Hi there from New Zealand,
I have a number of PSK professional power amplifiers model PPA-1000, a couple of which need servicing.
Having spent quite some hours web searching, as yet I have found only one reference to these amps, a forum elsewhere.
Does anyone out there know anything about these amps? Perhaps they are a re-badged model by someone else? Ultimately I would like to track down a schematic or even a service manual.
Hoping.......

I've never heard of them (but, after all, *who* am *I*?..). All I found on googles was references to Phase Shift Keying, Trojan Horses, and medicinal mushrooms... Quite a "mix" there, I'd say...

yeah, baffling me too. I have ten of them in the racks but apparently I'm the only one!

Do you have any contact with where you purchased them? Maybe the company sold-out to someone else, or just folded and closed their doors. Ask around at any local music stores you know, or can email, and surely you'll find someone around where they used to be sold that could point you somewhere. Has anyone opened the boxes to see if maybe there's a schematic on the underside of the top?

Hi, I too have never heard of these amps but I will do some digging for you.

What "servicing" do they need?

The fortunate thing is you have some working units. I would take the covers off a good one and make some DC voltage readings. Supply, and obvious collector/ emmiter points.

What sort of test gear do you have? A good DVM is vital of course but a sig genny and a 'scope will be very handy!

I do not know how experienced you are but you will definately need some big resistors as loads.

Dave.

Thanks heaps - I assume they are a northern hemisphere thing. All I've found out so far is that a hire co here in New Zealand imported a whole bunch of them, but are no longer involved with the same supply line. I have a sig gen, scope and dvm but am still very much at the early end of learning to use them. I have a background in electrical (control sys. and appliances) but not really electronics. All suggestions would be appreciated.
thanks again,
bryce
p.s. I notice the logo for PSK is the same as I have seen on some guitar effects pedals. Haven't had any luck with that lead as yet but still looking.

Quick thought. I would check transistor type numbers especially output and driver devices.
If these babies, or their equivalents are unobtainable, you are on a hiding to nothing!
Are these porporting to be 1000W amps?
Dave.

Yeah, 1000 watts bridged mono into 8 ohms apparently. I am going to pick up today an original brochure - not a manual unfortunately, but still usefull.

Ok Bryce,
Let me have as much detail as you can and I will telephone(no w site I can find)National Sound Reproducers who have been one of the biggest PA contractors/hire firms here for 40yrs+ and see if they can help.

I've tried to email you a scan of the op manual I have acquired. Let me know if you don't get it. Wasn't sure if there was a facility for sticking it or part of it on the forum here so I emailed it direct.
Any assistance or advice greatly appreciated.
cheers,
bryce

No pm has come thru' as yet.

You can email me on element61prom@btinternet.com

This is a spare account and I can junk it if it gets bothersome.

Well, this solves a mystery for me. I received an email this morning with a PDF copy of a PSK manual, and I couldn't figure out what I was supposed to do with it. I'll forward it to you, ecc83.

Not quite sure why it was sent to me, but I'll pass it on...
