I'm taking the first steps into home recording. I don't want to get in too deep initially so I've decided to do things simple just to get familiar with the whole recording at home environment.

I've chosen the M-Audio "Black Box Reloaded", great practice tool, great effects and Recording Interface, its in the post as I type, I'm using Mackie Tracktion 2 software also.

Now the Black Box only as an XLR dynamic mic input but no phantom mic feature. So does this mean I can do vocals and acoustic guitar through this input using a dynamic mic but not mic up my amp? Therefore to mic up my guitar/amp I would need a powered condenser mic such as this:

......?????

Have I got this right.....? .....or am I on the wrong tracks ;) all together....?

See, this is why I'm not going to a full-on fancy interface yet as I'm at this point in time a little lacking of knowledge in this field...!!! :o

Later in the day when I do come to purchase an interface with all the ins & outs, midis & firewires....etc.....could I still use the Black Box as an external effects unit....?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Johnny

Actually the most common microphone use to record a guitar amp is a SURE SM57. A dynamic microphone.

But you are correct, you can not use a condenser microphone with the Black Box.

And for your last questions, yes you can use the Black box as an external effect module.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply Sui............:)

Thats good to get that conformed, my Black Box is on order and I've managed to borrow a condenser mic from a freind whenever I need to use it, if its often then I'll buy one......

Cheers again
