View Full Version : Anyone intimately familiar with the inner working for the Yamaha 01v?

Okay, this may sound a bit odd, but although I've been using an 01v with Cubase for tracking and mixing for several years, I only do *very* basic things with the 01v. The other day, I accidentally hit the "memory" button, and then a few other buttons, and now I'm suddenly getting no sound out of the 01v. I play the tracks in Cubase and there is no sound coming out of the monitors or even registering in the 01v. Also, sound going into the 01v is not making it over to Cubase. Can someone please tell me how to adjust my settings to get them back the way they were?

Here's my somewhat archaic set-up: 01v is connected to a Wavecenter PCI via 2 fiberoptic cables (as well as with midi cables for using the 01v as a control surface for Cubase). The way I had things set up, I could have up to 8 separate ins going into Cubase, but any number of outs going back out into the 01v for playback.

I did hit the option I/O button, and only when I did the channel "swap" could I get sound, *but* strangely, the music from Cubase was coming through the 01v in mono (!) and only on the first 2 channels. But even then I still couldn't get sound into Cubase from the 01v.

Years ago when I got this particular set up, someone with whom I met on a similar message board, and with whom I've lost all contact, walked me through setting up the 01v over the phone, and I even made detailed drawings/instructions showing what he had me do, but I cannot find those anywhere. Yes, I have the manual, but it's of very little help as far as how I've been using the 01v. Clearly I have a lamentable lack of knowledge about the 01v, but as long as I haven't pushed certain buttons, it's always worked totally fine for what I've needed it for. Any help is massively appreciated!

I had this same setup. My 01v is collecting dust now, but if I get a chance I will fire it up and walk through my settings later tonight or tomorrow.
It always takes a minute to figure out Yamaha's internal routing schema.

You probably hit a scene location button that has you running a differnet config. When I set up my system I saved it as a scene so that if I screwed something up I could always go back. I do the same now with my 01x - i must have about 5 or 6 different setups and routing depending on what I am doing.

Well, after hours spent messing around with it, I seem to have found a half-assed work-around that can at least enable me to do certain things.

Basically, if I want to hear the mix back in stereo, I have to hit the Option I/O button and swap tracks 1-8 for 17-24, then go into the first "page" of the Pan/Route section (the "panpot" page) and pan channel 1 hard left and channel 2 hard right. This gives me an accurate stereo playback.

But, if I want to record and get a signal in Cubase, I have to do the following:
Unswap tracks in the Option I/O, go to the Pan/Route page and center channels 1 & 2, then go to the "Option Out Select" page, and for channels 1 & 2, switch them from Bus 1 & 2 to CH 1 & 2. That finally gave me a strong, normal, recordable signal in Cubase. But with this setting, I noticed some strange problems: for example, I had a guitar track that was panned hard left in Cubase. When, in Cubase, I panned it hard right, I couldn't hear it anymore.

But the problem, of course, is prior to my screwing everything up last week, I have never had to go through *any* of these steps to do any of these simple things. Furthermore, I'm not entirely sure why the steps above are even providing me with a half-assed work-around. I stumbled into it by simply pressing buttons and seeing if that changed anything.

At any rate, I'm really going to need to figure out how this was set up before so I can continue to use it in the way I've been using it all these years. Any help is massively appreciated!

Sorry I haven't had a chance to help you out I have been swamped with end of month stuff. This weekend, I should be able to pull it out and plug it in and see what I can do to help - maybe using skype to have a conf call so we can talk in real time.

dcwave, I appreciate it. However, at this point I'm no longer in a hurry as I'm going to be out of town for three weeks starting next week. When I'm back I'll revive this thread and take things from there. Thanks so much!
