Hi everyone,
I've been seeking advice in this area for a while and i finially decided to post. At the moment my setup is this, i have a digital out from my motherboard, which i use and connect that to my amplifier, which is a Yamaha RX-V530. I have 5.1 setup, where the speakers connect to the amp, obviously. I was thinking of buying a "CREATIVE SOUND BLASTER X-FI PLATINUM PCI SOUND CARD". I'm wondering, if i connect my amp to the jack via the digital out on the jack, will i recieve better sound quality (seeing as usually a dedicated sound controller usually always is better than onboard)? I am also wondering if this is best option considering my situation. Any help will be very appreciated. Im basically looking for the best way to recieve sound in the position i am in. I am very inexpirienced in this sort of area, i apolagize if i have said anything stupid.

First off mate, we all start somewhere...

The X-FI card is a good overall card. Games mostly but has nice asio drivers also and Dobly Digital + DTS decoding for movies. I'd say this card is a great option if your still with onboard sound. And new to things. If you want best performance and quality then you'll need to cash out more but i think the x-fi is a good start for you. Have one too at home, love me games ;-) Can't do that with my Creamware card.

And Digital connection thru spdif should prove the best quality option.
Just connect the soundcard to your digital in of your amp and your off ;-)
