View Full Version : EMU E6400 Ultra
Hi there~
Anyone know anything about the "EMU E6400 Ultra"?
Found one in a dusty corner of a friend's place and I'm wondering whether it's worth exploring.
It has a 3.5" diskette drive but there are sound libraries which are on CDs (but the CD I tried wasn't readable on a PC).
Only I/O (besides MIDI) is a SCSI which I suppose would be used with a SCSI external CDROM or hard drive.
No manual, of course. Looks like a rather formidable device, but appears it will take some time to figure out.
Any advice? Deal or no deal? Many thanks~

I'd say it's worth exploring, but that may be about it. You can share files with the PC, but I don't think a direct link is possible without an add-in card. They made both analog and digital cards(ADAT) for it I believe. If there is no interface card, perhaps one can be found on E-bay. EMU always had a great rep regarding it's samplers...you can see for yourself, as manuals are still available for it here.......

Thanks! Two counts of impressive! Both a quick response and a manufacturer that evidently believes in support documentation...
There are LOTS of punchouts on the back panel, but...none of them are punched out...
I was thinking maybe the samples from the CDs might be worth salvaging if they can be converted.
I'll research it all when I can...but more pressing is my quest for an audio interface to replace my MOTU 2408mkII, which I suppose should be a new thread.
Thanks again for the info.

A long time ago my wife had a Roland workstation, now gone, sold but we still have ALL the soundbank cards, ie floppies, can these be converted to disc or used for anything else like a ZR76...sorry. 87

Hey 87........Yes, I do play piano, but as you can tell from my avatar, I'm happiest when I'm sittin' behind the kit! There are file conversion programs that you can try. One that comes to mind is called CDXtract. Does the PC see the info that's on the floppy? or is that the issue you are facing?

Played, looks like the joke how do you stop a drummer from playing, place sheet music in front of him will not apply in your case.
Actually they say piano players make good drummers, Played, you need to learn how to tap dance next.
Especially when you try to sell songs to record labels !
(not your songs that was just a general stab at the industry).

Hey Bops, it's funny that you should mention tap dancing. I actually took tap dancing lessons at an early age. My teacher was was none other than Gene Kelly's brother, Fred Kelly. I recall a few times meeting Gene Kelly as he'd stop by his brother's dance studio on occasion. I'm not sure if it will help me in dealing with the industry's 'big wigs', but I guess it may be an asset if some side-stepping is called for.
Yes, that old time joke doesn't apply....I also think that regardless of what other instrument you choose as your main...all should learn to strike the ivory's as well.
