Not sure if I'm to basic compared to some of the post but here goes

Hi I'm new to recording, I play my technics kn6500 keyboard a lot and over the years written small bit and pieces, but stored nothing down, I am now looking to start, recording. Sound easy so far, what I would like some help with is I also use the same pc for on-line gaming. I Was looking at buying a Audiophile 2496 to get me started, but if I did I would also need to be able to run my sound blaster card as well to allow for my 5.1 speaker set-up.

Can I run to sound cards together and if so Is the Audiophile 2496 the right card to go for me to begin with. Or is there another card that will do both at reasonable starting price.

Please ask if you need anymore info

Welcome to the audioforums locka, Look at the E-MU 1616, you can use your 5.1 speaker setup with it....and it's expandable.

You can use both cards, but you'll need to switch between them or setup a second user with different preferences.

thanks for advice, to setup two profiles should not be a problem, other card is a bit expensive, just for me to start with.

Your welcome locka, consider the 1212M, it is upgradable to the 1616M or expandable via it's ADAT I/O.

The Audiophile 2496 (should be under $100 and sometimes goes for $69) and SoundBlaster should get along fine together. Problems are always a possibility, there is no soundcard that works right on every PC, but few people will experience problems with those two together. I've had that combination for about five years now.

The Audiophile is quite good. You can spend more money, but you will have to have very high quality throughout the rest of your system, properly adjusted room acoustics, and well trained ears, to hear the difference, unless perhaps you compositions will involve a large number of tracks.

I have heard people say that if you use the audiophile and a soundblaster together, you should install the soundblaster first and the audiophile second. otherwise there can be conflicts. i have the audiophile and i like it a lot.

for midi software i suggest Cubase.
