HI DAVE,i ordered the wamirack 192x.it was graet on the paper with 123 db dynamic range.no one that i knew of then had that kind of dynamics rage.so i ordered it.
when i got it,the headphone was none existant very low as if it had a deffect.how i know this?because i have the digi 001 and the headphone is just great infact the whole souncard and the interface is a marvel comparing to any other souncard within its class, with quality and tons of features.but their protools software simply sucks.so i use it with samplitude v6.04 with only two channels if you use it with 3rd party software, nontheless it works beautiful.as i said the protools is a relic software imho.
ok,get to the point dim..the wamirack's quality was none existant with me.so,either it was deffective,or it was crap and to good to be true.so,i am still waiting some kind of a praise from some owners, havent yet.
just elaborate as to what feathures you are looking for how many inputs wether you are gone use external mixer etc.that sort of thing.so we can pinpoint the unit in a way.

well,i have the 001 permnantly now,and i have the layla 24/96 that i am still deciding on.
since you are using an external mixer and intrested in one input at least, look for the rme cards,i think its the hammerfall series if i am not wrong, that are only pci cards and a lot of raves about them.infact i mifgt end up getting one of those after pinpointing the model for mix and mastering purposes.TIM Z has one and he can give you more elaborated advice on them.hope he is reading this he will attest to it.are you there TIM?
BTW,lynx is getting some great raves too,but it might be out of your budget range that you suggested.but RME is definately on the top.so consider it.
oh,i never got another wamirack 192x,till someone tells me they own it and its what it says it supposed to be.so,no i did not get another one, since it was thru mail order and you know mail order takes forever and its hard to send it back sometimes depending on the retailer site that you deal with.

I purchased the waveterminal 192X. It was a disaster. No matter what resolution that I recorded at there was a sceeching sound with the audio. Also, I couldn't play back files recorded at 192khz. I down loaded the latest drivers but it did nothing. I tried contacting tech-support with emails and phone calls but it's support doesn't exist.
I had to threaten them with contacting the Dept. of Corporate Records in San Jose California and getting the name and address of their corporate head. I said that I was going to send who ever it was a certified return receipt requested letter of complaint to their home and that one of their staff who have to explain why I went through the trouble of bothering this person at home. That's when I got a prompt reply asking what OS I was using but the problems never got fixed so I sent the card back to the vendor that I got it from and got it switched for one from M-Audio.
