I would like to record 4-6 inputs, each onto their own seperate tracks so that I can adjust or edit each track individually. I have a Tascam 4 track unit hooked up to a soundblaster card that works OK but the tascam will only record 2 tracks at a time - not all 4. I was thinking about jumping the Buss selector switch - but I still dont think I will be able to assign track 1 to input 1 - etc., to get "true" 4 track simultanious recording. Do the Delta units give this type of recording capability. Or any the portable hard disk units on the market?

I am trying to record pick up jam sessions that I am invoved with, and all the takes I have so far have level problems or other editing problems where I need to work with 1 musicians part. It would be great if each musician had his own track on the master. I set up with a mic or two on each musician, depending on what their instrumentation is. Mostly amplified vocals and guitar, wind instruments (miked), and percusion (miked). I get the sound into the recorder from either a line out on the amps or I mic the speaker of the amp.

Any help - Sugestions

There are several small multi track recorders available. Your Sound Blaster card will only support two channels at a time so that is a different problem.

You can buy four track (or more) recorders from Zoom, Roland, Yamaha mini disk, etc. I suggest you start doing some homework and lean all you can about the units. Visit zzounds.com, americanmusical.com, musiciansfriend.com, samash.com, sweetwater.com etc. for pricing. Check out Fostex.com, Tascam.com, Roland.com, Yamaha.com etc. for equipment.

After you get a recorder if you want to send all tracks to a computer you will need a multi input (either analogue or digital, depending on the output of your recorder) sound card and multitrack recording software.
