Fostex D-160 to Sound Blaster Extigy

First I'd like to statrt by saying that this is an excellent forum. I have read almost every post absorbing all of the information I could gather.

My question is:
Is it possible to use the optical out on my fostex d-160 and record using the optical in on the sound blaster extigy. If not, why?

If it is possible ,What program do I use to let the computer know I am sending it an optical signal?

It's a whole new game to me...

I believe your Fostex has S/Pdif optical I/O and your Blaster has the same. You need to set the card up through it's own software and through Windows Media control panel.

You have to make sure the Fostex is S/Pdif optical and not ADAT Toslink optical since the two use the same lightpipe interface but will not work.

Your recording software may also have a device setup window that needs to be set.
