View Full Version : [Problem] - Remove voices from the main audio (DVD movie)

Hi all, I should extract some sound effects from a DVD movie (this means Dolby Digital/AC3 codec), but the actor's voice is an obstacle.

It's possible to play the DVD with the english or the italian language, so I thought... is there a program which compare the 2 audio tracks, which only differ for the voices, so that it recognizes these differences and remove them, without editing the main audio? (which is the same for both the tracks, they differ only for the language)

I hope you understand me...

Or, if this program doesn't exist, how can I remove the voices, with a good quality? (using expensive software if needed, that's not a problem)

Thank you very much!

The answer is no, you can't do that. This topic has already been covered at length in these threads:

...and many more, if you have the patience to look. Sorry.

Ok, thank you for the reply... this mean that you can't remove voices with a 5.1 audio, too? I will try with Audacity... let's hope for a good result.

Hey, I have this cake that my wife baked for me and I am looking for an easy way to extract the flower and bring it back to it's origional, white and fluffy form.

I dont care if there is a copyright involved in the making of the cake, it is just that I know of another recipie that also takes the flower in the same quanity and type of the stuff I need to get, (you know, "fair use" and all).

I was wondering if someone could help me out.

thanks in advance.

Just another question...

To convert from DVD to audio track (WAV, MP3 ecc.) I use DVD Audio Ripper 4.

If I select a non-AC3 stereo track as source, the result of the conversion is very good, but if I select a AC3 5.1/2.1 track, the sound is terrible.

How do you solve this?

Thank you again.

I think you're missing the bigger picture here... There is no way you are going to get any good results from this endeavor. That is what the guys are trying to tell you here. I don't care if you rip it in Dolby super digital 7.2.3.4, you will not get a good result trying to remove audio from a mixed recording. This is covered twice a week here on the forum--even though I give people credit for coming up with inventive new ways of asking the same question. Good luck to you anyways, and hopefully someone else can answer your question about ripping. I recommend finding another way to get your sfx, maybe some foley work?

Yes, I had the picture in mind, and to prove you that I understood: you can't remove voices from audio ;).

The other question wasn't about ripping sfx: i wanted to use that program (DVD Audio Ripper 4) for some good music, which isn't supporterd by my CD Player.

This is why I need to convert it, but the results aren't good :).

IN the old days, we had these large black discs that were not portable and required a special diamond tipped reader to be able to hear the music, to get around the portability limitation, we would take an analog line out from the playback device and attached it to an analog line in on a tape recorder, and tad-da we had a portable format, although sometimes of a lesser quality than the original.

Could you not adapt a similar aproach to reproduce the music you want? Take a analog line out to an analog line in and hit record then you can have it in a format your want. ;) :D

Thank you for the reply, but... there's a thing of which I am not pretty sure.

Are you talking about this?

;)

By the way I just solved my problem, by using "Smart Ripper" and "AC3Tool".

The results are now perfect :).

Thanks everybody for the help.

You mean you managed to take the talking out of a DVD? Without the soundtrack and background sounds?

That's pretty amazing actually.

I mean that I ripped out the sound from the DVD (soundtrack + bgm + vocies), and this was my problem because the program that I originally used, didn't work.

Now, with Sound Forge 8, I'm getting good results (removing noise, and so on...).

If the voices are mixed to one channel of your 5.1 setup then you may be able simply to mute that channel and keep the rest.

Unlikely scenario though.

I've tried, and unfortunately it didn't work.
