I just built myself a new PC using the Intel mobo DG965WH. My knowledge of the way sound works on a PC sucks, and is limited to just downloading drivers and hoping for the best. (Link to my board = http://www.intel.com/products/motherboard/DG965WH/index.htm) Now I just installed Vista Ultimate (32Bit) and only heard sound coming from my front 2 speakers. I played around with the Vista options and nothing seemed to work. So then I came on this forum and saw this link (http://www.radarsync.com/vista/) with audio programs and drivers and downloaded the Sigmatel one and ran the program. After restarting my computer now I have no sound whatsoever and theres nothing to configure in my Sounds folder. Also clicking on the Sigmatel program in my control panel does absolutely nothing now. Any help here?

Ok so I fixed this problem myself with the help of my friend google and lots of restore points and random downloads. Now for another issue! I click on Sound in the control panel and everything is fine. I do 5.1 and the sound test plays perfect through all my speakers. Only problem is that when I use windows media player or winamp it only plays through front left and front right. How can I fix this?

Scratch that enabled speaker fill and all works fine now. Finally done configuring Vista I hope?

Welcome to the forums En1gma, nice work! Sorry to hear that the link to Vista drivers didn't work out for you. I only provided the link after using it myself to update drivers for my realtek on-board audio device.....which did work.
Note: Always create a restore point before installing any BETA drivers.
That said, I usually don't advocate pulling drivers from any third party sites. I would always go to the source first. Intel is a good company that's usually on top of the driver game. I'm sure they would have had the updated audio drivers for your MoBo. I would instead use the site as a frame of reference to see when drivers become available and would only pull drivers from there site if for whatever reason, you have no other choice.

The weird part is that I installed the ones from intel again, and that didn't work. So I went to uninstall them and after the uninstall finished all of a sudden my sound kicked in. I really have no idea what happened because I tried uninstalling everything and searching for drivers but I guess windows corrected itself eventually or I must have became a tech genious subconciously for a minute there. :D

Quite a tale. In any case, you did something right.
Glad it works.
