View Full Version : Soundcard prob or Mixer setting? Audiophile 2496

Hey all, I bit the bullet an' got me a real sound card! Well I bought an audiophile 24/96. Kinda low-mid range pricewise but I read some great reviews on it. So now I have a problem. Is it at all possible that this isn't a full duplex card? I was using a Soundblaster Live and it ran great with Cool Edit and Samp6 as far as play and record went.
Now I can't seem to play track1, and record and hear what I'm recording onto track2. I can either record on track2 and not hear what I'm recording (it does get recorded though), or if I wish to hear what I'm recording, track one gets recorded along with it, so now track1 is doubled onto track2 along with my new guitar!
I'm going from the 'tape out' of my Eurotrack 602A mixer into the input of the card. Then the output from the card is going to the 'tape in' on the mixer.
I'm monitoring through headphones from the phone jack.
When I hit the '2tk to cntrl room' button or the '2tk to mix' button thats how I'm toggling off the different options of either hearing my new guitar solo, or recording my new guit onto track2 but not hearing it.
I realiz e this is probably a dumb question, and I'm hitting the manuals as I jump into the tub but I wanted to see if anyone has an answer.
Ok, Flame away at the newbie haha!

I haven't figured out the answer to that question either. If anyone answers, can I read it too? :-)

The answer lies in figuring out how the audiophile software-mixer/patchbay works. It's a bit confusing, but the manual says how to make the proper settings.

Come on Sun, don't tease us! Down South we have a saying: "It ain't polite to thump a gift watermelon." I shouldn't question your gift of a response..... but:

You gave us some advice but no answer. Are we looking for something in the manual that CAN be done, or are we looking in the manual for something that CANNOT be done? :-)

Sorry for being short.

In the patchbaymenu of the audiophile control panel, both buttons that says "monitor mixer" should be selected.

In the the "monitor mixer" tab or menu or whatever you want to call it, unmute the mixer inputs "WavOut 1/2" and "H/W in 1/2". And dont forget to raise the faders.

Hopefully this will solve your problems.

Thank you, Sµn, for the additional information.

Tonight when I got home I read from the owner's manual and on page 3 it states: "4x4, 24-bit/96khz, full-duplex recording interface with MIDI I/O."

I am still a puzzled camper so I come to the following conclusion- I AM ASKING THE WRONG QUESTION! The Audiophile 2496 may be capable of duplex, but the card is simply the servant of the system. For the card to do it's thing..... the SOFTWARE needs to be duplex capable.

Now that I have some small amount of faith that my board is duplex capable... I've got to do some reading and hope that some good soul will also come to my rescue.

If I am using COOL EDIT 2000, is my SOFTWARE duplex capable?

Okay, I can answer a small part of my own question. Cool Edit 2000 can do full-duplex... IF you purchase the Studio Plug-in.

I own that! And I haven't really explored it. Put that on my To Do list.

What a warm fuzzy feeling it gives to publicly display your ignorance right here in front of everybody. :-{

No, no, no. Sµn, I was talking about myself!

I get out here in a public forum and ask all these questions and then one by one I take the time to read documents I have in my possession and find myself answering all my own questions.... questions I would never have asked if I read first. So, at that point I say self: SELF, isn't it great to be out here in a public gathering, displaying my lack of intellectual skills.

Yes, I went back and read my message and I wrote it poorly. I fully understand why you would think I was throwing bad vibrations in your direction.

Peace.

On the Audiophile 24/96 in order to hear what you are recording while you are recording to you have to set the output on the patch bay portion on the mixer to monitor mixer.

Thats what worked for me.

Rockway... I think you missed part of the question. He was not asking how to listen to what he is now recording.

Track one was previously recorded. He wants to play back track one and listen... as he produces something live in synch with what he is playing back and record the live to track 2.

Can you tell us how to do that?

Make sure you're selecting the correct inputs in your audio software. You want the actual inputs selected and NOT the ones which say 'Delta Monitor' (or something). If you select the monitor inputs you will get everything which is being played by your soundcard.

Once you've got the correct inputs/outputs selected go into the Delta control panel and use the monitor mixer to select the channels you want to hear and adjust the volumes accordingly.

Dan

Hey Vernon

I understood the issue i just realiized that i missed one crucial part of the answer. This is how my audiophile mixer is setup.
my hardware out put is set on monitor mix (here comes the part that was missing)now on whatever sw app thats being used to record the selected recording source should be Delta H/W in 1/2 its some thing like that. Thats what works for me and i don't get any bleedover or mixing of signals.
