Hi.

Im moving away from using hardware samplers and would be interested in any recommendations for stable software samplers that work well with Sonar or Acid?

I really need one that work in the same soft of structure to the old Multi's and Keygroups on hardware sampler.

Any help much appreicated :)

There is a good freeware VST sampler called Paax that can do splits and zones. It is fairly easy to operate and the manual is thorough.

Here is a link to a site with some discussion about the more professional samplers: http://studio-central.com/phpbb/viewforum.php?f=32&sid=b357580882bee031a324f5d468438502 ( http://studio-central.com )

If you're not after free software, Kontakt from Native Instruments is absolutely unrivalled.
Doesn't SONAR come with a sampler anyway?

Apart from that, as a Reason user I've grown to love the NN-XT, so I often simply ReWire it into a DAW. It's pretty advanced with all kinds of LFOs, filters, and so on that you could name, and lets you assign different sets of samples to things like aftertouch, pedal, expression, and so on.
For example, I could load a piano patch in that contains samples across the keyboard, varied by volume (how hard the engineer bashed the piano), pedal, and I could also sample the sound the hammers make, set that to kick in just before the note, and the reverberation from releasing a note.
I can then vary all these parameters so I hear more hammer and less tail, for example, and essentially model a studio with it.
It acts like an acoustic instrument.

AFAIK Kontakt can do pretty much all that too, and more. Just thought you might like to know that Reason's sampler is excellent.

Kontakt, as Soniclasaudio suggested, is excellent.
There are others (even some free ones - great one in every issue of Computer Music magazine and they just gave away a copy of Paax last month) out there.
