I can get one super cheep, anyone ever use this non-pro sound card to record?

I do... But with a non-pro card, you get non-pro recording, i.e. 16 bit/48 KHz with a poor signal to noise ratio and a dynamic range of about 70 dB. And you get sometime huge latency times that does not allow real time monitoring of soft synth and pluggin effects.
On the other hand, you can use it as a sampler : it can play soundfonts wich are a custom set of wave file.
And for after-hours games, it handle ambient effects through the EAX standard ( very nice reverb and echoes when you go down the crypt to slay a few zombies http://www.audioforums.com/forums/smile.gif.
