I'm a newbie to this, and I need some help. What is the best software I can get for simply recording vocals over beats. That is all I want to do, just rap over beats, and add effects to my voice. I would like to keep it in the $200-250 range if possible. Also, I have an Alesis 8 firewire multimix on the way, once I plug that into my computer, and plug the mics into the mixer, it should work right? Or do I need a sound card? I am pretty clueless with this stuff, but Ive been reading these forums, and you guys are really helpful, Id really appreciate a response, thank you.

Your Alesis device is a soundcard ... plus the other bits and pieces in the box.
And it comes with recording software.

Yes, i agree with vulcan.

There are many different programs to work with, and all of them are "good" stuff. The best thing you can do is trying some demos to see witch of them makes your work easier and more comfortable.

work with Adobe Audition, it's very affordable and powerful. I use it a lot to record and edit sounds.

I was hooked on nuendo for years then started using magix samplitude and have foundit to be the best software in my opinion. Download te demo and try it out its a true beast.

There's no such thing as a "firm date" until it actually shows up in my warehouse. But the current "best guess" is late June.

No good....I can't open the application!
I get as far as finishing the setup and then it quits on me everytime.
It must be my own system.

Yep. Off topic usually happens more times than not. Kinda like talking to a group of people except using text. As far as the cost it was listed at $799.00

Don't come here and advertise your product without spending some time contributing to the discussion first. I looked at your software, and I was entirely underwhelmed.

Personally I say Acid studio or pro is your best bang for the buck. You might find acid pro 5 still around for cheap, and it is just about compatible with anyting.

i have a similar question. What's the best software out there under 1k? I have Sony Acid Pro 6.0d right now and all the midi soft synth sounds sound cheap. Also, the software seems a bit flakey. here's my system:
asus a7n8x deluxe motherboard with an amd xp2600 processor and 512mb ram. i have more ram but i'm lazy and havent installed it yet.
M-audio firewire 410
Tascam DP-01fx/cd
korg dw-8000 wave synth keyboard going into the tascam
Casio ct6000 keyboard used just for midi
various instuments going into the Tascam including mics, guitars, bass, drums, and a drum machine.

I'm also a newb at this.
thanks in advance!

If I were you I would put that memory in, it could fix your "flakey" problem. "The best" would be different for all, many have been mentioned, you could always put some money to a synth plug if you want better sounds there. I use Sonar 6 myself, can't say it's my fave, because I haven't used many of them myself!:)
