Not sure if the title of my last post made any difference but I guess I'd give this one a try. I'd really like some feedback on this new Dance track. Please be critical and give me negative critisism as well. Anybody? :o
Track Title: Out of Time

Hi Eddie, I just joined and saw that you wanted some critique, so here it comes :),.....I thought it was a bit repetive in the long run, my brain kept asking me "When does the song begin?" because it has a good bassline and ok drums, but it may be my music taste that is a bit mixed into this reveiw/critique :)...But anyways, good beat, steady, no akward tunes and no bad rythm...
And shame on me if you think i criticised something wrong :)
cya later ;)

Thanks! ;) Thats exactly what I was looking for, any opinion is good. I'm glad you took the time to first listen to the tune and then to respond to my thread.
Your input definitely helps me out!

You use good quality sounds. The main part of the song comes in maybe a bit too late.

People are complaining about a long intro. That's not necessarily the case, you just need to divide the song into parts a lot more definitely. Chronologically:
You had a lovely synth swell about 0:50 which you could have made more of.
The synth beneath the intro from about 1:00 is too underwhelming. I think you could have made some harmonics of it and brought the whole thing up until it hogged the whole mix, then brought it down and cut through to 2 or 3 synths with lots of reverb at 0:50.
Then remove the reverb so it's dry and bring in the drums.
Keep the bass low because it seems to be hogging the mix.
The main problem, I think, with the song was the lack of an identifying motif. If you look at some of the really good tracks of last year (I'm thinking of Ross Ross Ross by SebastiAn) you will notice a very stylised loop of 1 or 2 bars that is stamped all over the song in various instruments. Same applies to the Simian Mobile Disco mix of Whoo Alright Yeah Uh-Huh by The Rapture. The wole track revolves around that tight bassline until the breakdown where it filters out, a new synth is added, then it returns.
You had something approximating that with the strings at the end. The synth and bassline, however, was too cliched to remember.
You are a good composer and you definitely have a track in you that shreiks TUNE. Keep experimenting.

I really like the track below it (Piece of Mind), though. That's exactly what I'm talking about when I say 'motif'. For that song the hook is really neat, you just need to fix what's over it so it's funkier. Also, more after the breakdown.
I think you shoud ressurect that song and go over it again. Don't fade it out either. It's an outdated method of ending a song when you can't think of a better finale. Go with the tried-and-tested cutting (or filtering) each instrument one by one and bringing the bass to a punchy finish.

Man, I am truly grateful for the response. Your critique is one of the most I've received in a long time. I will take your helpful information and make some changes. I can't tell you how thankful I am! :D
Take care,
Eddie

Mix sounds ok to me, I just get flash backs of "sprocket' guy on old Saturday Night Live reruns.....

I thought it was kool but like others said I thought it was a bit too repetitive for my taste. Notice I said "my taste" :) The reason I say that is because their is plenty of minimal techno out their and it sounds repetitive but it's supposed to sound that way. That's the sound. Daft Punk is big and if you listen to technological you'll hear that they have their repetitiveness also. I don't really listen to that kind of techno usually, but if I went to a rave I love that stuff to dance to. It works well there and the DJs can easily mix with it.
So it all depends what you were going for. If that's what your going for that I think you pulled it off well. :)

Thanks for the great comments! As for the style of my music, you are spot on. I am into a more minimal sound with driving bass lines and effects.
Take care,
Eddie
